Munster vs Edinburgh Rugby, Sun, 19/01/2014 - 12:45

Edinburgh Rugby's Heineken Cup campaign came to a crashing hault in Thomond park this afternoon losing 38-6 again the two-time champions.

While it is well-recognised that this was a below-par performance from a side that had shown incremental improvements through the winter, having to live with an in-form Munster side with 14-men for 20 minutes of the game was a telling factor.

The home side had already registered two soft scores (half of the balance they needed to secure a home Heineken Cup quarter-final) however the boot of captain Greig Laidlaw meant that Edinburgh were just six points adrift.

Half-time: Munster 12-6 Edinburgh Rugby

The first yellow would prove to be telling as Edinburgh - in need for a win or draw to progress to the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final - were stretched by an increasingly confident Munster side with a man advantage.

The 14-man Edinburgh side conceded a third try just three minutes after the restart with scrum-half Conor Murray finishing off well worked piece of interplay
