Edinburgh captain Roddy Grant and Glasgow Warriors skipper Al Kellock have been telling of the mounting anticipation in their respective camps ahead of the Greaves Sports 1872 Cup derby double-header which begins at Firhill on Monday 27 December (kick-off 5.35pm).

In a video interview with www.edinburghrugby.org and www.glasgowwarriors.org, both men express excitement about the back-to-back showdowns that will see Scotland’s two professional team vie for vital Magners League points as well as local bragging rights.

Grant confirmed: “The games have a real edge to them, not least because of the point in the season we’re at.

“Derbies always bring the best out of teams and players; it’s when guys really step up and go for it. It was gutting to lose both games to Glasgow last year, and we don’t want that to happen again.

“The intensity will definitely be lifted and that’s what the fans want: the two top teams in the country really going at each other.”

Kellock, meanwhile, underlined his men’s determination to hold on to the silverware, saying: “Last year was fantastic. We used the momentum of winning the two Edinburgh games really well – we really pushed on and managed to get a play-off place.

“The derbies were a big point in our season last year, and it could be the same again this year. It’s always an intense week leading up to the games and the guys are already looking forward to them.”
