Dougie Fife

Kicking off his career with Edinburgh as an Elite Development Player, Douglas James Fife made his first senior professional appearance in season 2011/12 against Ospreys, sealing his debut with a try.

Fife went on to establish himself in the starting line-up under Edinburgh Rugby head coach Alan Solomons and enjoyed his most prolific spell to date in season 2013/14 when he scored five times in seven matches - his Heineken Cup try against Gloucester at BT Murrayfield a  highlight for the Black and Red army.

Ligament damage to his hand in March 2014, during his 20th start in as many appearances that season, brought a premature end to his season however.

Starting in all 24 of the matches he played for Edinburgh in 2014/15, he notched up seven tries, perhaps most importantly against Bordeaux-Begles in the away European Cup win which kicked off the club's successful run that season [see video below].

After featuring as a regular in the matchday 23 in season 2015/16, he was drafted in to Scotland 7s - during the RBS 6 Nations' break - to add to his caps in the abbreviated game, for the HSBC World Series leg in Vancouver, dotting down for the first score in the team's Cup quarter-final challenge against Australia [pic right].

Early days to international honours

Fife played for Scotland under-17 and Edinburgh under-17 and under-18 as well as for the Edinburgh back-up team against their Glasgow Warriors counterparts. He played his under-18 club rugby with Boroughmuir, then moved to Currie where he played for the first XV in the Premiership’s first division.

He made a try-scoring debut for Scotland under-19 in the 55-13 victory against their Italian contemporaries at Lasswade, Edinburgh, in March 2009. He also played in the under-19 international against France in Dourdan a month later before being selected for the 2010 under-20 6 Nations. There he started every game and scored Scotland’s second of three tries in the win over Italy in Sardinia before featuring as a starting winger in all but one of Scotland's IRB Junior World Championship matches in Argentina, scoring in the opener against Australia.

As a Scotland 7s international, he spent some of the 2010/11 season on the IRB World Series circuit, taking part in the tournaments in Dubai and South Africa, scoring three tries, prior to joining Edinburgh.

In 2011, he played on the left wing in both Scotland's Club XV matches away against France and Ireland at Netherdale, scoring a try against the French.

He then won his first senior international honours for Scotland A in the 13-9 win over England Saxons in 2013 (the side's first win on English soil on the sixth time of trying) before starting seven successive matches in the spring run-in.

Fife was rewarded for his impressive club form when he earned his Test debut against Wales in Cardiff in 2014, becoming Scotland's 1053rd cap. He scored his first try in the away 2015 RBS 6 Nations opener against France and was included in the extended squad for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The Firhill High School former pupil also has an impressive academic record. Alongside his rugby commitments, Fife earned a Higher National Diploma in sports coaching with development in sport at Telford College, Edinburgh, and went on to study at Edinburgh Napier University where he graduated with a degree in Sports Coaching.
