Scott Newlands admits losing by a point to the Dragons at a rain-soaked Murrayfield was incredibly frustrating but believes Edinburgh will move forward after undergoing the experience.
Despite dominating large periods of the second half, Edinburgh found themselves repeatedly knocking on a door that refused to be opened.
Pegging the Dragons back for nearly 15 minutes only led to a straightforward penalty and Newlands says it was a morale-sapping blow.
Newlands said: “It was extremely frustrating. We got into positions to get points and unfortunately they never came to fruition.
“We scored a well-worked try, but we also had them under pressure in the scrum, although we never got any reward for that.
“We only scored three points after dominating the game and I think we deserved more. It was frustrating that we never came away with any more.
“If there had been a sin-binning or a penalty that perhaps that would have changed the game.
“But they held their line in tact and nine-nil was always going to be a big lead.
“To be fair, it was an absolute nightmare – the ball was so slippery. In those conditions, it means the defence has always got the upper hand.
“Although we did try to play some rugby at times, they didn’t and they came out the victors of the match, so perhaps that was the lesson from today.”
