JOHN AND STEVEN ENJOY TEAM READ PDF Print
Friday, 11 July 2008

ImageEdinburgh players John Houston and Steven Turnbull read excerpts from their favourite books to local children as part of Team Read – a UK wide initiative which encourages children into libraries to take part in a six book challenge across the summer.

The event was part of the Edinburgh project which will have 5, 000 children taking part over the course of the summer. The individual events will feature sporting stars from the Scottish capital reading to children and then encouraging physical activity at come and try sessions.

Houston said: “I think it is really great to encourage kids to read. I read a lot when I was a kid.

“It broadens your horizons to learn about other people’s lives and events. It works your imagination because even though you’re reading it, you can create the characters in your mind.

“One book that really stands out is the Power of One; it inspired me a lot. It is a book about a boy growing up in South Africa.”

Edinburgh’s thriving community programme is open to local schools, youth groups and rugby clubs; should you wish to be part of it call 0131 346 5244 and get closer to YOUR club.
