We at Stewarts Melville FP RFC are keen to improve our player numbers and also build stronger links with the local community. As part of this we have joined up with the Student Union at Edinburgh's Telford College to form an official partnership with Stewarts Melville FP RFC to enable Telford College students to use our rugby facilities and become members of the rugby club.

We are one of the closest geographical rugby clubs to the college and as the Student Union doesn’t currently have any rugby facilities to offer it’s students we feel this would be of great benefit to both parties.

Students interested in playing rugby who contact the Students Union at Edinburghs Telford College would have their details passed on to the club who would then invite them to a taster training session at Inverleith.

Should they like the club and training session they will then be free to join up at a heavily discounted rate (which includes travel, training, kit and food after games for the entire season) and play for Stewarts Melville FP RFC whilst continuing their studies at the college.

This unique partnership is effective immediately with several players already in touch about pre-season training. The club also aims to have a presence at Edinburghs Telford College Fresher Fair in September 2008 as well as various other promotional activities at the college throughout the year.

Edinburghs Telford College runs two rugby specific sports courses as well as numerous sports studies, sports therapy and sports nutrition HNC, HND and SVQs. There are roughly 3500 full-time students at the college with a further 11,500 short full-time, block release, part-time, evening & weekend, work based, or open learning. Scotland and Edinburgh rugby player Ally Hogg is one notable rugby playing alumni of the College.

Stewarts Melville FP RFC play their rugby in the Scottish Hydro Electric Premier Two. The club boasts excellent playing and training facilities as well as unrivalled medical and administrational support. Training takes place at Inverleith, Ferry Road on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.30pm during season time and we run 3 league teams on a Saturday and also a social rugby team and a sevens team too.
