SQUAD NAMED FOR CAPITAL SEVENS PDF Print
Saturday, 19 April 2008

ImageRob Moffat believes the game-time players will receive during Sunday’s Capital Sevens at Meggetland will prove to be beneficial for Edinburgh ahead of the final two matches of the Magners League season.

Moffat named the final squad following Friday’s thrilling win over Magners League leaders Leinster at Murrayfield and the 10-man squad includes Ali Warnock and Greig Laidlaw, who both recently won the 125th Melrose Sevens with the Scottish Thistles.

Hooker Andrew Kelly has been handed the captain’s armband for the match and it will give Edinburgh supporters another chance to see Mark Robertson in action after the winger returned to competitive action after a nine-month lay-off with a pelvic injury.

Moffat said: “It is a good opportunity for our players to get some game-time ahead of our final two league matches of the season. It will be good for them all to get some rugby and to have some fun out on the pitch as well.

“We are really pleased to be involved with the Capital Sevens; it is a really good event in the Edinburgh rugby calendar. Another good thing is the opportunity for club players to play against professionals. It is good for them to see where they are and to compare themselves with pro’s.”

Edinburgh have been drawn to face invitational side, the Bruce Hay Chiefs in the competition at Boroughmuir’s home ground and kick off for the match is 3.36pm with the main event starting at 1pm.

Admission prices for the tournament are £10 for Adults and £8 for Concessions. Go along and watch the Black and Red Army defend their crown against the rest of the capital’s rugby teams – it promises to be a memorable event.

Edinburgh squad: Andrew Maxwell, Mark Robertson, Calum MacRae, Ali Warnock, David Blair, Greig Laidlaw, Ben Meyer, Scott Newlands, Matt Dey, Andrew Kelly (captain)
