Sunday, 06 April 2008

ImageWatsonians – skippered by National Academy prop and Edinburgh back-up squad player Kyle Traynor – powered their way through to the semi-finals of the Scottish Hydro Electric Cup on Saturday with a convincing 29-10 win over Biggar at the Myreside.

The Edinburgh-based club, where current club chairman Gavin Hastings made his name, will now enter the semi-final draw scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

But while Sonians booked their place in the last four Balerno-based club Currie, where Ben Cairns started playing senior rugby, lost 24-21 at Ayr and Haddington’s journey in the competition came to an end against Jed Forest.

In the other quarter final tie, Melrose, the club where Edinburgh assistant coach Rob Moffat spent his playing days, defeated neighbours Hawick; the club where prop Geoff Cross regularly plays.

Meanwhile, setting a precedent for Friday’s 1872 Challenge Cup decider between Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh, Heriot’s came back to the capital with a dramatic win after they nailed Glasgow Hawks 26-25 at Old Anniesland.

Edinburgh Rugby Club actively supports and promotes all the rugby clubs from in and around the district of Edinburgh, so when the Black and Red Army aren’t in action get your fix of live rugby action by paying a visit to your local club.
