Scotland had qualified for the Plate after being defeated 19-7 by Kenya with Ali “The Hulk” Warnock coming on as a replacement and scoring a consolation try. Earlier in the tournament, Laidlaw had crossed the whitewash during the 19-12 defeat suffered at the hands of China. The tournament started brightly for Scotland 7’s with Laidlaw, Warnock and flanker Scott Newlands all contributing in the opening day’s win over Portugal. But unfortunately they were powerless to stop Scotland from exiting the competition at an early stage, although the trio will be aiming to help the team progress further at the Adelaide Sevens next week (5-7 April). |

Edinburgh scrum half Greig Laidlaw, nephew of former Scotland captain Roy, scored a try for the national 7’s team but it was not enough to prevent Argentina winning 7-5 and knocking the side out of the Hong Kong Plate at the quarter final stage.
