CLUB REVIEW: SONIANS THROUGH, BUT CHAMPIONS OUT PDF Print
Sunday, 16 March 2008

ImageWatsonians – captained by National Academy prop Kyle Traynor – progressed through to the quarter finals of the Scottish Hydro Electric Cup after defeating Dundee HSFP 42-14 at Myreside.

The maroon and whites have gone one step closer to clinching the trophy that the club last won in 2006 while city rivals Boroughmuir’s double dream ended at the Greenyards where Melrose won 16-0.

The Meggetland-based club fielded lock Fergus Pringle and National Academy hooker Sean Crombie, recently called up by the Barbarians, but conceded a try by David Whiteford while further points were kicked by Scott Wight to ensure Calum MacRae’s club went through.

Meanwhile, Haddington defeated Selkirk 52-10 at Neilson Park to book their place and Heriot’s beat Gala 29-23.

Musselburgh were beaten 34-8 at Stoneyhill with James Doig scoring the East Lothian club’s only try of the afternoon while Currie are still yet to play their sixth round tie.

In the only Scottish Hydro Electric Premier One clash of the weekened, unfortunately scrum half Greig Laidlaw, who scored 11 points, was powerless to prevent Edinburgh Accies from losing to Stirling County at Raeburn Place.
