Edinburgh fell to a Toulouse side that made sure of their place in the Heineken Cup quarter-finals with a home win in Toulouse. The French side started well and after Jean-Baptiste Elissalde's penalty, Vincent Clerc finished a superb break. Edinburgh replied through Phil Godman's penalty but Clerc collected Elissalde's grubber to score while Florian Fritz's interception try, whilst Edinburgh were determidely attacking the French line made the score 22-3 at half time. Tries from Yves Donguy and Salvatore Perugini sealed victory but 2nd row Ben Gissing claimed a consolation Edinburgh near the end after a fine move that flowed from Edinburgh's own line. Edinburgh had plenty of ball but struggled to keep possession and a wasteful offload as the Scottish side attacked led to Toulouse's third try. Fritz gratefully accepted the pass and ran in from his own half to increase his side's advantage. The win for the French side confirmed Toulouse's progression to the next round, whilst Edinburgh can relfect on a number of great performances in this year's competition. |
