Ahead of the match, Boroughmuir boasted a huge lead at the summit of the Premier Division standings and had kept their unbeaten start to the season in tact. But Boroughmuir, with lock Fergus Pringle in their line-up, could only manage three penalties from Elgan O’Donnell while Watsonians scored tries through Lawrie and Dougie Brown. Meanwhile, Edinburgh Accies narrowly lost 17-15 to relegation rivals GHA at Braidholm with the home side scoring a matchwinning try in the ninth minute of stoppage time. Half-back Greig Laidlaw scored a penalty and a conversion, but Scotland’s oldest club will be left ruing a great chance to have climbed away from the danger zone. Arguably the finest performance of the day though came from promising stand-off Ally Warnock and the playmaker scored a try, three penalties and a conversion for Currie. The Balerno-based club breezed past local rivals Heriot’s and Warnock’s display underlines the quality currently waiting in the wings at The Castle. |
