Stewart’s Melville hooker George Turner has become the latest young prospect to win a Scottish Rugby Elite Development contract that will see him aligned with Edinburgh for season 2011/12.
The 18-year-old, who was part of the Scotland under-20 squad for the recent 6 Nations Championship, joins Boroughmuir stand-off/centre Harry Leonard in earning a place in the group of promising talents to be overseen by the club’s Elite Development coach Bryan Easson.
Turner and Easson, along with fellow Elite Development player Grant Gilchrist, are currently training and playing in New Zealand as guests of Canterbury RFU, having been jointly awarded the 2011 John Macphail Scholarship.
Easson today looked forward to having Turner on board in the capital next season, saying: “George is a big, powerful hooker who has real potential.
“Training with players like Ross Ford and Andrew Kelly next season will give him an excellent opportunity to keep improving his game, and I’m confident he’ll be an excellent addition to our ranks.
"It's already been shown that opportunities can arise if these players put in the hard work. As coaches, we’re looking forward to working with the likes of George, Grant, Harry and the other Elite Development players to make sure they continue to progress.”
