After RBS and Scottish Rugby announced their Fabric of the Nation initiative yesterday, www.edinburghrugby.org spoke with our back-row forward, Ross Rennie.
Rennie talked of the importance of club rugby and how his Rugby World Cup preparations are coming along.
The Edinburgh openside flanker who has so far claimed six caps for his country attended the announcement sporting his old club’s jersey, Stewart’s-Melville, in a bid to promote the giant shirt which will be displayed on the international pitch on Saturday 6 August.
He said: “I had a really enjoyable couple of seasons at Stew-Mel. I learned a lot about rugby while I was there and I have a lot to owe them for where I am now.
“An initiative like ‘Fabric of the Nation’ is a brilliant way to bring all the clubs in Scotland together and get them behind our national team. The more clubs and communities that are represented through this initiative the better and hopefully we can do our bit for them by playing well and winning.
“In terms of training, it has been going really well. It is high volume and intense but I am really enjoying everyone being together because it isn’t often that we all get to be together for such a long period of time.
“I am really looking forward to, hopefully, being involved with the EMC August Tests because I don’t just train hard to be on the bench.”
