Edinburgh Rugby is delighted to announce that Aberdeen Asset Management will continue to be the club’s main sponsor for at least another two years.

The extension will see the global asset manager continue to support the Murrayfield-based club until 2013, with the team continuing to sport the group’s logo on two of the biggest stages in the world of club rugby, the RaboDirect PRO12 and Heineken Cup.

The renewed deal is the latest milestone in a partnership that dates back to 2008.

Edinburgh chief executive Craig Docherty today hailed the extension as a great coup that would give the club a real boost in both a rugby and commercial sense.

He said: “The sponsorship extension is fantastic news for everyone associated with Edinburgh Rugby and is a great endorsement of what we’re striving to achieve: giving the Edinburgh supporters a team of which they can be proud.

“Aberdeen will support the efforts being made by both ourselves and Scottish Rugby to develop the player pool and give us real credibility when we go into the marketplace to encourage other local and national businesses to get on board and invest.

“It illustrates the attractiveness of what we offer sponsors: association with high-profile, international rugby players and a vehicle for brand exposure right across Europe.

“Aberdeen Asset Management want to work with us to grow the club both on and off the field and I’d like to put on record my thanks for the three seasons of valuable support they’ve already given and look forward to this partnership thriving in the years ahead.”

Up to ten under 18s can cheer on the capital club for free with every paying adult, as Edinburgh take on Alan Tait’s Newcastle Falcons at Murrayfield on Friday 26 August (kick-off 7.30pm).

Free U18s do not require a ticket. Tickets for adults are priced at: £10 (adults) and £5 (students and senior citizens).

Martin Gilbert, Aberdeen Asset Management’s Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to continue our excellent relationship with Edinburgh Rugby as its main sponsor.

“In the period that we’ve been associated with the club, we’ve seen Edinburgh progress on and off the field and it’s great to be on board as they work to continue that trend.

“As a passionate Scottish rugby supporter, I’m excited about the potential the club has to keep developing. They boast some of the most exciting talent in Scotland, they represent a city with fantastic rugby heritage, and they play in competitions that offer Aberdeen Asset Management enviable brand exposure.

“We at Aberdeen Asset Management want to be part of Edinburgh going from strength to strength, and our continued support of the club reflects that desire.”
