Three Edinburgh players have been thanked for their service to the club as they prepare to head to pastures new.
Lock Craig Hamilton, back-row forward Scott Newlands and wing Mark Robertson have spent a combined 12 years in the capital, and chief executive Craig Docherty today paid tribute to their contribution.
He said: “Craig, Scott and Mark have been excellent servants to Edinburgh, showing enthusiasm and professionalism even in those times when they’ve not been playing as many matches as they would have liked or have encountered struggles with injury.
“It’s the nature of professional sport that players come and go, and I know I speak for everyone at Edinburgh when I wish these lads all the very best for the next step in their respective careers.”
Hamilton has today completed a move to French Pro D2 side Tarbes Pyrénées Rugby. In all, the man from Wigtownshire made 74 Edinburgh appearances.
Newlands’ tally stands at 61, the former Border Reivers player having joined in 2007. He has featured regularly for the Scotland 7s team, most notably at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh.
Robertson, meanwhile, will be fondly remembered by Edinburgh fans for his match-winning try in the historic away Heineken Cup success in 2008. He made 44 appearances for the club.
