Scotland A flanker Roddy Grant has today told of his excitement at heading back to familiar territory to represent his country in Friday’s clash with USA Eagles at Netherdale (kick-off 7.30pm, admission FREE).
The Edinburgh captain has strong rugby and family ties with Galashiels, the location for tomorrow’s match. He played at club level for Gala, and his maternal grandparents still live in the Borders town.
Grant, who featured in Scotland A’s victory over Tonga at Netherdale last November, has urged supporters to turn out in force tomorrow for what he feels will be “another fantastic occasion.”
Speaking exclusively to www.scotlandrugbyteam.org, the 23-year-old said: “The Tonga game was amazing: the crowd was packed to the rafters. I was used to playing there, but that was one of the most vocal crowds I’d seen in Gala.
“If we can get that size of crowd, and in turn the same result and performance against the USA, it would be fantastic.
“From the games we’ve seen, the USA play the game the same way we want to: expansive, running rugby. It should be a great spectacle.
“We’ve got a really good squad together for this game, and the training’s been great all week. Everyone is really looking forward to the game, and for me personally, playing on home turf will be just brilliant.”
