MOFFAT: WE WILL MAKE IMPROVEMENTS PDF Print
Sunday, 13 December 2009

Edinburgh head coach Rob Moffat admits his side produced a below-par performance at Bath but promised the squad will be working whole-heartedly to deliver an improved display in the return Heineken Cup meeting with the West Country team next Saturday (19 December, kick off 1.35pm).

Moffat said: “We didn’t play well enough to win the match – it is as simple as that. I thought the character shown by the team was superb.

“But we made too many mistakes and got turned over too many times. We made life hard for ourselves against a good side.

“If you keep on getting turned over then it makes it harder to win the ball back and I think that is why we lost the game.

“We had a lack of sharpness about us and we gave away too much ball. We tried to play, but we weren’t accurate enough.”

A lethargic start by Edinburgh was punished by an early try scored by Bath hooker Pieter Dixon and then moments later the home side extended their lead with a penalty from Nicky Little.

As a result, Edinburgh were forced to play catch-up – something Moffat believes ultimately proved to be their undoing.

He added: “We can’t afford to give teams an eight-point head-start and that is what we did today.

“But in the second half the game could have gone either way. We kicked the ball into touch when we might’ve kicked for points.

“Then we missed touch from the penalty. It was like we were taking two steps forward followed by three steps back. You have to learn from that experience and we weren’t accurate enough.

“We will be working harder than ever to make sure we don’t make as many mistakes when we play Bath next week. We will analyse the match on Monday and take it from there.”
