Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it is Murrayfield’s Flying Dutchman, Tim Visser launching the club’s new marketing campaign; Darknights.

Focusing on the superhero theme, the visuals include eye-catching images of Edinburgh players in iconic city locations.

Edinburgh Chief Executive Nic Cartwright backed the marketing campaign and believes supporters will enjoy it. To download a Darknights poster please click here. Cartwright said: “Our team have achieved some heroic feats over the last two seasons and this marketing campaign perfectly captures what we are trying to achieve – put smiles on supporters’ faces by winning rugby matches.

“It is a bit of fun and hopefully our supporters will enjoy the marketing campaign.”

Edinburgh Rugby Club today unveiled some of their Marketing collateral for the 2009/10 season including the showcasing of their tagline for the season: the Darknights.

After completing a full calendar year undefeated in the Magners League at home, chief executive Nic Cartwright thought the time was right to offer an insight into the club’s plans for the season.

Cartwright said: “Our players have been heroic over the past 12 months, and we wanted to base our campaign around that.

“We play in black, and our preferred home kick off time is Friday nights – all of which led us to the posters.  The design team (Cravens) came up with the concept off that initial brief and I think that the pictures look sensational.

“We certainly see our club as representing the City of Edinburgh, and these pictures capture the spirit of the city as well as the pride we have in representing the Capital.  I am sure that people will want to get their hands on copies and help us promote the games coming up.”

The posters are to be used to promote each of the Club’s three Heineken Cup games, although the original design concepts are also to be used over the next three home games (including Magners League) as the concept is launched.

Supporters are able to download all the posters (as they are released) on the Edinburgh Rugby website and Phil Godman, Edinburgh number 10, who was one of the players to take part is keen that as many supporters as possible see the posters.

Godman said: “It was great fun having the photos taken, and it is great to see that they look so good.  I am Edinburgh through and through having lived here my whole life, so it is great to feel that we are now helping to promote the club and the city.”
