PREMIER ONE REVIEW: THOMMO RETURNS PDF Print
Sunday, 18 October 2009

Jim Thompson made his long awaited return to competitive action for Selkirk in the Scottish Hydro Premier One fixture against West of Scotland at Philiphaugh.

After recovering from knee surgery in the summer, Scotland ‘A’ internationalist Thompson wore the number 15 shirt and helped to ease the Borderers’ relegation fears with a 27-20 win.

The previous week, Selkirk had lost 88-3 at Currie, so the result was a marked improvement with Thompson featuring for the first 40 minutes.

Thompson could potentially be available for a first team return for the visit of Magners League champions, Munster, this weekend when Friday night rugby returns to Murrayfield (Friday 23 October, kick off 8pm). Call 0131 346 5180 to reserve your place for the biggest match of the season – the drama continues in EH12.

Fraser McKenzie continued his impressive form for Dundee HSFP by helping the Taysiders defeat Watsonians – their sixth successive win.

Lining up in the second row, McKenzie, who scored a try during the previous week’s triumph at Heriot’s, performed well in Dundee’s dominant pack during the 41-15 win at Mayfield.

It was the battle of the brothers at Malleny Park on Friday night when Ben Cairns’ older brother, Mark – who has played for our back-up team – helped Currie to defeat Edinburgh Academicals, featuring Mike and David’s youngest sibling, Alex.

Ross Samson started for Accies against the in-form Balerno-based club, but was powerless to prevent Currie from running in six tries.

Cairns senior scored a try for pacesetters Currie while Blair junior contributed a try and three conversions for Accies.

On the injury front, Sean Crombie has yet to feature for Selkirk this season after aggravating a back injury while Andrew Easson unfortunately damaged his knee while on duty for Boroughmuir against Accies.
