MACDONALD TARGETING IMPROVEMENTS PDF Print
Monday, 29 June 2009

Alan MacDonald has vowed to not rest on his laurels after experiencing a trophy-laden two months and Edinburgh’s 08/09 Player of the Year plans to build on his achievements and help the team progress in the Heineken Cup.

Fresh from helping Edinburgh secure our highest ever finish in the Magners League – second spot behind champions Munster – MacDonald’s contribution to the success translated into being voted Player of the Year by both the supporters and his team-mates.

The talented openside then supplemented that double feat by playing a pivotal role in helping Scotland ‘A’ win the IRB Nations Cup in Bucharest alongside a bucket-load of Edinburgh team-mates including his old school pal Ben Cairns (pictured).

Now MacDonald is targeting more improvements for the 09/10 campaign and you can watch him progress by taking advantage of our great value Season Ticket packages. From just £30 (Juniors) you can watch 24 hours of top-class action at the home of Scottish Rugby. Call 0131 346 5180 or click here to become part of a record breaking team to be proud of.

MacDonald said: “It has been a really memorable couple of months for me. It has been really successful and I want that to continue.

“I just want to keep on improving; I’m not focusing too far ahead into the future. I just want to take what I achieved last season and to build on it.

“Looking back, I felt that the Romania tour was a challenge, both in terms of the quality of the opposition and also the weather conditions.

“The heat was something that we’re not really blessed with during our domestic campaign, so I thought that was challenging.

“But I was pleased with how it all went. It was very enjoyable to win in the sun. When you are playing with new guys there are always bits that can be improved on and overall it went well.”

The draw for the Heineken Cup has placed Edinburgh in the same Pool as Bath, Ulster and Stade Francais and, despite the illustrious opponents, MacDonald believes the team have a great chance to march on through to the quarter finals.

He added: “I’m really excited about the Heineken Cup. All the teams in our Pool have strong European pedigree; two are former winners of the competition and Stade Francais have made it through to the Final twice.

“So that underlines just how tough it will be for us to progress through to the knock-out stages.

“Of all the matches, the one that really stands out will be Stade Francais away. With the crowds they attract, it will be exciting to go there and with Bath and Ulster there it should lead to some exciting games.

“Hopefully we can get out of that group. We’ve got a chance to do it, but we need to see it through and get the job done.”
