Mike Blair made his debut for the British and Irish Lions today (Saturday 30 May) and helped the most famous team in rugby to defeat the Royal XV 37-25 in Rustenberg. Starting at scrum-half, Blair’s performance largely mirrored that of the team; a few nervy moments to begin with followed by an assured finish. The Lions were trailing 18-10 at half-time before taking care of business with tries from Tommy Bowe, Lee Byrne, Alun Wyn Jones and Ronan O’Gara. Blair’s half-back partner also contributed four conversions and three penalties.
