Edinburgh supporters will be able to savour the opening installments of the Magners League season in their favoured slot, after the confirmed fixture list gave the club five home Friday night games before Christmas.

The capital side will open their campaign away to Heineken Cup rivals Cardiff Blues on Saturday 4 September, before hosting Munster the following Friday (10 September, kick-off 7.05pm). After a trip to Ulster on Friday 17 September, Rob Moffat's team will host Leinster on Friday 24 September (kick-off 7.05pm). The club's first visit to Italy comes on Saturday 2 October against Aironi, after which Ulster come to Murrayfield for another Friday night feast of rugby (Friday 22 October, kick-off 7.05pm).

The first leg of the now traditional inter-city double-header against Glasgow Warriors takes place at Firhill on Monday 27 December (kick-off 5.35pm), with the rematch inked in for Murrayfield on Sunday 2 January (kick-off 5.35pm).

Both matches will be screened live on BBC ALBA as part of an exciting new tie-up with the Gaelic-language broadcasters. Before the turn of the year, the channel will also provide live coverage of Edinburgh's home games against Munster, Leinster and Ulster, as well as several of the club's away games to be confirmed shortly.

Roddy Grant, the new Edinburgh captain, today welcomed the confirmed schedule, believing it to be supporter-friendly. He said: "The fans like their Friday night rugby, and now we've got that consistent slot, I really hope it encourages as many people as possible to turn out and get behind us. Murrayfield is one of the best places in the world to watch a game of rugby and with enough support at our backs, we can turn it into a fortress.
