Geoff Cross hailed the team’s improved physicality following Edinburgh’s vital 17-13 Heineken Cup win over Ulster and believes further improvements are in the pipeline.
The front-five asserted themselves superbly against formidable opposition and the stability that brought proved to be the foundations on which the much-needed victory was built upon.
The Scotland prop admits the forwards have worked hard to improve at the breakdown area and believes the collective physicality can even get better.
Cross and co face another monstrous challenge against one of Europe’s best teams on Friday, Magners League champions Munster (23 October, kick off 8pm). Call 0131 346 5180 to reserve your ring-side seat for another knockout bout of top-class action at the home of Scottish Rugby.
Cross said: “The breakdown and the contact zone is crucial and it is where we have suffered in the games we haven’t won recently.
“It is something we have seen on the videos and see the things that we need to address.
“Our height, the fact that we working individually and not manipulating defenders by working in groups were both key factors and also that we weren’t at the contact zone early to help out our team-mates.
“We’ve addressed those things in training and, although we realise there is still lots that needs to improve, we did enough to get a win against Ulster.
“I thought the scrummaging against Ulster was a good battle and I’m looking forward to more of that in the future.”
