CLUB PREVIEW: TRAYNOR PREPARES PDF Print
Friday, 26 September 2008

ImageKyle Traynor admits he is aiming to help Watsonians defeat Selkirk at Philiphaugh on Saturday (26 September, kick off 3pm) and believes performing well at Premier One level will lead to a recall into Edinburgh’s match day squad.

After signing as a professional in the summer, Traynor, 22, was involved with Edinburgh’s first team during the pre-season friendly matches against Wasps and Bath and also the Magners League game at Leinster.

But now the former ‘Sonians captain has returned to wearing the maroon and white with the primary objective of handing Edinburgh head coach Andy Robinson a timely reminder of his credentials.

Remember to take advantage of the 'Kids Go 4 Free' scheme for Edinburgh's home Pool matches in the Heineken Cup. For every pre-purchased Adult ticket (£20) you are entitled to FOUR kids (under-18) tickets for absolutely NOTHING. Traynor said: “It is great for me to get out there and get some valuable game-time. I’ve been involved with Edinburgh so far this season and it is about me getting involved in the matchday 22.

“This is great way to prove myself at that level and hopefully get back in the squad for the Ulster game.”

Lining up in the opposing front row is Traynor’s pal Sean Crombie, although the Farnborough-born prop insists that their friendship won’t come into the equation once the game is underway.

He added: “Sean and I have played a lot of rugby against each other when we were both coming up though the age groups, so in that respect it won’t be that bizarre.

“We are good mates, but I’m sure there will be a bit of niggle in there anyway; it is only natural.”

After captaining ‘Sonians to a Cup semi-final, Traynor believes that playing week-in week-out at Premier One level enabled him to hit the ground running when he featured as a replacement during Edinburgh’s dramatic win over Ospreys in May.

He said: “It is a good league and there is a lot of quality in there. It is basically what you make of it. If you go out there with the right attitude then you will the recognition you deserve.

“It is a natural stepping stone to the Magners League. If you take Premier One seriously then you will get the rewards you want.”

Fraser McKenzie and Steven Lawrie will play for Boroughmuir against try machine Bruce McNeil, who scored two for Hawick last weekend, at Meggetland.

Premier One fixtures
