Despite vast improvements in their second half showing that saw David Blair score two penalties in two minutes, Edinburgh were left to pay for not showing a ruthless streak iin Ulster territory. Ulster went ahead through a converted try from David Pollock, but the home side had to wait until the 26 minute mark to finally make the breakthrough against a spirited Edinburgh defence. Schifcofske added the extras and scored two further penalties to compound Edinburgh's misery, although there were some positive signs from the collective performance from a back division with an average age of just 24. Phil Godman handed Edinburgh a late lifeline at Ravenhill with a 71st minute penalty, but it was not enough to prevent Ulster from climbing off the bottom of the Magners League table with a narrow 13-9 win.
