John Houston helped Stirling County’s revival to continue with another valuable contribution from midfield – this time in a dramatic 32-26 win against his old club, Heriot’s.

The Edinburgh centre – last season’s Newcomer of the Year – has earned his first professional contract after producing some eye-catching displays for the Nails.

But Houston, who is also ironically the fitness coach at Heriot’s, was the driving force behind County’s remarkable comeback at Goldenacre.

Club captain Simon Cross helped Scottish Hydro Electric Premier One new boys Selkirk chalk up an impressive 23-20 win over Melrose at The Greenyards in an exciting Borders derby.

With Sean Crombie also featuring in what proved to be a competitive match, Cross came off the bench to help Selkirk secure a win in order for them to move up to third place in the table behind leaders Ayr and Heriot’s.
