CLUB PREVIEW: TURNBULL SET TO FACE FORMER CLUB PDF Print
Friday, 17 October 2008

ImageAndrew Turnbull admits he is raring to go ahead of his Scottish Hydro Electric Premier One debut for Currie on Saturday afternoon; even though it is against his old club Watsonians at Myreside.

The winger, 26, attended George Watson’s and played for ‘Sonians before being elevated into the professional ranks.

Now he has a chance to get back on the scoresheet; but in the Black and Amber of Currie rather than the Maroon and White of his former team.

Turnbull said: “To be honest, it will be just like any other game of rugby. Myreside is a place that I’m comfortable playing at. It is a nice pitch and I’m just looking forward to it.

“Obviously it is going to be a bit special to play against my old team, but I’m just keen to get out there and play for Currie.

Turnbull acknowledges that he will need some time to adjust to his new team, but that transition will be helped by the presence of Edinburgh team-mate Andrew Easson in Currie’s back division.

He added: “It will be helpful that there is someone there that I know and who I’ve trained a lot with. It is always quite difficult to step into a new team, but with Easso there it will help.”

Meanwhile, Ben Meyer will play for Premier One new boys Selkirk alongside Sean Crombie in their match at West of Scotland.

Roland Reid returns from his long-term knee injury to represent Stirling County at Melrose with Ryan Grant also playing for the Bridgehaugh club.

Current table-toppers Ayr face Boroughmuir, who have both Steve Lawrie and Fraser McKenzie in their pack.

Meanwhile in the other capital derby, old rivals Heriot’s and Edinburgh Accies go head-to-head at Goldenacre with Jim Thompson set to wear the number 15 jersey for the Nails.

Edinburgh Rugby Club actively supports and promotes all the rugby clubs in and around the district of Edinburgh, so if you aren’t planning a cross-channel trip to watch our first team why not get your fix of live rugby action by visiting your local team.
