CLUB ROUND UP: CROMBIE SUITS SELKIRK PDF Print
Sunday, 28 September 2008

ImageSean Crombie made an instant impact for Selkirk during the Borderers’ barnstorming win over championship contenders Watsonians at Philiphaugh.

Against Edinburgh team-mate Kyle Traynor, hooker Crombie, who won the title last season with Boroughmuir, contributed a try in the 32-28 win over ‘Sonians.

Trailing 28-15 at half-time, after back-up squad player Torry Callender had scored one of four tries for the visitors, Selkirk staged a famous comeback to win their fourth game of the Scottish Hydro Electric Premier One season.

In a bad weekend for Edinburgh-based clubs, Currie, with Andrew Easson in the side, lost by a point to Glasgow Hawks at Malleny Park while Heriot’s were defeated at West of Scotland.

Edinburgh Academicals, without influential scrum half Greig Laidlaw, also lost at home; crashing to a 13-20 defeat against Melrose at Raeburn Place.

But champions Boroughmuir recorded a positive result for the capital’s teams with a 21-17 win over Bruce McNeil’s Hawick with back-up stand-off Rory Hutton scoring a conversion.
